Rangers could ‘cash in’ on nine players in January after Van Bronckhorst confession – pundit
Rangers could “cash in” on their out-of-contract stars and reinvest the funds during the January window, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be “dreading” the start of the January window.
Nine Rangers stars are out of contract at the end of this season – including Leon Balogun, Connor Goldson and Steven Davis – and can all discuss pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from Saturday (1 January).

As quoted by the Scottish Sun (27 December), Van Bronckhorst admitted he doesn’t want to end the window with a “smaller squad than when you started”.
Whelan suggested the affected players could be distracted as they plot their “next moves” after life at Ibrox.
“I think there will always be a distraction when there are that many players thinking about their next moves,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“There’s always speculation when you come to the end of your contract, especially in January – it’s a strange window.
“The good thing is that no one will leave until the end of the season unless Rangers want them to. There may well be players who command a transfer fee.
“I think Van Bronckhorst could demand a big fee for a couple of those players. In turn, that will give them the opportunity to go into the market themselves.
“It’s a lot of players, and I’m sure the manager will be dreading that January window.”

Rangers sit top of the Scottish Premiership by six points heading into the winter break.
Van Bronckhorst is yet to taste anything but victory in the league since taking over at Ibrox.
