Rangers 23-year-old must earn a second chance to impress Murty after Florida display

COMMENT
Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso has looked like a dead man walking since Graeme Murty’s appointment as Gers boss but he may be able to salvage his Ibrox career after the club’s trip to the United States.
Cardoso has only made one substitute appearance since Murty took the reins at Ibrox in October but played more minutes than any other Rangers player in the Florida Cup.
The Portuguese defender looked as though he was going to be one of the first out the exit door when the January transfer window opened but with injuries taking their toll on the Gers squad he could still win himself a second chance.
The former Vitoria Setubal defender was nothing to write home about against Atletico Mineiro or Corinthians but never looked overly troubled either
At only 23, Cardoso has moved to a new environment, culture and language and – while it’s clear he’s loving his Scottish adventure – it can take time to get fully accustomed to such a massive shift.
With the right guidance and a consistent defensive partner, Cardoso could prove to be of value to the Ibrox giants as they go into the second-half of the Scottish Premiership season and try close the gap to runaway leaders Celtic.
