Rangers defenders could be ‘axed’ against Kilmarnock

Rangers ‘won’t chance’ potential injury in their game against Kilmarnock on Sunday (October 10) due to their plastic pitch.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie has warned Rangers players they will have to alter their game against Kilmarnock, and players with previous injuries might not be able to play.

Players like Robin Propper and Leon Balogun, who have already picked up injuries this season, may be benched by Philippe Clement to avoid any reoccurring issues.

With top two Celtic and Aberdeen playing on Saturday (October 19) Rangers have the opportunity to close the gap on the top two if they’re able to secure all three points against 9th-placed Kilmarnock.

Rangers starting to put a frustrating start behind them

Since their 3-0 Old Firm loss to Celtic earlier in the season, Rangers have only suffered one more defeat, a 4-1 loss to Lyon in the Europa League.

With four goals scored and zero conceded in their last three Scottish Premier League games, things are starting to look up at Ibrox.

“It’s a hard place to go because of the plastic pitch”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“Rangers will know and I would imagine they would have been training on the plastic this week.

“The ball bounces differently but I’m sure they will be ready for it.

“Sometimes you’ve got to play players that can do it on the plastic, the big stars might not be able to play on it.

“If someone has dodgy knees, they won’t chance it so it depends on who he’s got at his disposal.

“You usually find big centre-halves aren’t very good on the plastic, they all look like Bambi.

Rangers

“Kilmarnock are playing well, they’re a good team and when they turn up and play, can give anyone a game.

“So it’s going to be difficult. It’ll be a battle of wits because everyone’s talking about Derek McInnes could be next Rangers manager.”
