Rangers ‘don’t have the money to buy new players’ amid terrible claim – Glasgow pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers “don’t have the money” to buy new players in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker insisted that the Gers have to sell Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent in January.

Both Kent, 26, and Morelos, 26, have just over 6 months left on their Ibrox contracts and could leave for free in the summer.

On 1 October, this site revelaed that Kent has rejected a new ‘big-money’ contract offer as he sets his sights on a move to the Premier League.

This site also reveal earlier this month (10 December) that Morelos has demanded £45,000-a-week in wages if he is to agree a new contract.

As quoted by footballscotland (22 December), Michael Beale claimed contract talks have a “different angle” since his return to Ibrox and has urged fans not to panic.

On 19 December, this site revealed that Sunderland have placed a £10million price tag on Gers target Ross Stewart.

McAvennie insisted Rangers need to offload Kent and Morelos in January to bring in money to pay for new signings.

“I do not know what the structure is at the team, we saw Aberdeen getting to them,” he told Football Insider.

I do not think they have got the money to go and buy players.

Rangers

They were in a terrible situation when the two centre-halves were injured. [Giovanni] Van Bronckhorst did not know what to do.

I would want to sell Morelos and Kent in the window to get the club some money.
