Rangers dressing room is full of ‘losers’ – Celtic idol

Rangers lack the “winning mentality” of the Celtic squad which could break their hopes of a domestic treble.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie claimed the Gers side is full of “losers” while Celtic can boast a squad made up of serial trophy winners.

Having won the League Cup in December, Philippe Clement’s side have the chance to bag a treble if they beat Brendan Rodgers’ outfit in the Scottish Cup final next month and close the three-point gap at the top of the league table.

Rangers have managed to win just two points in their last three league games which has allowed their Old Firm rivals to return to the summit of the table.

McAvennie suggested Rangers’ lack of winning experience is their “biggest problem” in the closing stages of the season.

“That’s the big thing – they haven’t got winners in their team who have done it before like Celtic have,” he told Football Insider.

“They have losers in their dressing room who haven’t won trophies year on year.

“That’s their biggest problem and people are always saying that the manager needs to get rid of the players because they’re constantly losing the league.

“The last step is the biggest one of all.

“It’s all well and good getting to the same level as Celtic, but they’d need to win it.

“We will find out in the next few weeks if Rangers have that winning mentality – I know Celtic have it.

“There’s people in the Celtic dressing room who are serial winners – that’s a huge difference to Rangers’.

“Rangers need that winning mentality if they want to get over the line.”
