Rangers dressing-room roar is sign things are changing at Ibrox
COMMENT
Rangers were drawn to face Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup on Sunday, and Sky Sports interviewer Luke Shanley let slip an interesting tidbit when he mentioned in his post-match interview of hat-trick hero Jason Cummings that there was a “roar” from the Ibrox dressing room when their team was drawn with their bitter rivals.
The Light Blues look like an entirely different side under Graeme Murty than they did under either Pedro Caixinha or Mark Warburton and have that swagger – deserved or not – that the successful Rangers teams from the past all had as they lifted trophies.
Murty’s side are free-scoring at the moment and in recent years setbacks like conceding an equaliser such as the one Falkirk scored would have seen previous Gers teams go into their shell and hide.
This side though went straight up the pitch and scored another goal within 28 seconds to re-establish their lead.
Even in recent Old Firm clashes, there was almost never a feeling of confidence that emanated from the Ibrox dressing-room and made fans think the players had any sort of belief they could beat their rivals – the last time there was, the Light Blues beat Celtic on penalties in a Scottish Cup semi-final.
It might all backfire and end up with a thumping next weekend but, for the first time in years, there seems to be a real belief within Ibrox that the Gers are more than a match for Brendan Rodgers’ side – and the roar from the dressing room when the sides were drawn together is proof of that.
In other Rangers news, this Premier League playmaker wanted a future at Ibrox in 2011 and this summer is his chance to realise that dream.
