Kieran Maguire: Rangers enduring ‘trying time’ behind the scenes as Barry Scott quits
Rangers are enduring a “trying time” following their failure in the Champions League – they are lucky they have the likes of John Bennett and Stewart Robertson to steady the ship.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from the Ibrox boardroom.
Rangers issued a one-sentence statement on Wednesday (12 October) to announce that Barry Scott had stepped down from the board in order to “pursue his other business commitments.”

He joined the board in 2017 when Rangers were under the stewardship of Dave King.
His is the second departure in October alone following David Graham’s resignation as director of communications.
Rangers’ 7-1 humbling at the hands of Liverpool on Tuesday (11 October), their worst-ever defeat at Ibrox, means they are unable to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds.
But Maguire is confident that the Glasgow giants’ other directors can steer them through a difficult period.
“Rangers have a significant number of people on the board of directors,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“So, although Barry Scott is stepping down to concentrate on his Cillit Bang career, I don’t anticipate any major changes as far as the day-to-day operations are concerned.

“Rangers have the likes of John Bennet and Stewart Robertson, people who are experienced in the game and also experienced in broader industries as well.
“Having that transferrable skill set is absolutely essential at what is a trying time for the club on the pitch from a European perspective.“
