Report: 27-year-old Rangers summer signing very close to Ibrox exit

Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena is exceedingly close to leaving scotland this January, according to a report.
ESPN are reporting that the Mexican national is “very close” to securing a deal that would see the 27-year-old reunite with his former boss Pedro Caixinha back in Mexico.
Pena, who has been inconsistent since arriving only in the Summer, could be joining Liga MX side Cruz Azul, having only spent six months at Rangers.
Rangers forked out an appreciable £3.5-million for the Mexican international, however he has failed to make a consistent impact, leading to Pena only achieving 14 appearances this term – although he has scored five goals.
The report states that Pena is favouring a move back to his homeland, and that former boss Caixinha has told the club to make him a priority target this January.
Talks between the two clubs are believed to be in the advanced stages.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers will hope to recover some if not most of the fee they paid for the Mexican midfielder, who has found life tough in the Scottish Premier League. Featuring mostly from the bench for Rangers, Pena never made a true impact, despite his five goals. Wherever Pena ends up he will want to be playing as much football as possible with the World Cup around the corner.
In other Rangers transfer news, a QPR midfielder has today signed on loan until the end of the season.
