Rangers expert: Calvin Bassey backed to finalise move to Premier League high flyers
Former Rangers star Calvin Bassey will thrive under Roberto de Zerbi at Brighton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said Bassey “ticks a lot of boxes” for a Premier League club.
According to The Athletic (3 July), the Seagulls have renewed their interest in the 23-year-old as a possible alternative to Levi Colwill.
Brighton were interested in the centre-back last summer before he joined Ajax from Rangers for almost £20m.
De Zerbi has made signing a left-sided central defender a priority in the transfer window to provide cover for Pervis Estupinian.
Hutton insisted Bassey still has a lot to offer any club.
“I think going there and learning a particular style of play under De Zerbi will only bring him on,” he told Football Insider.
“I think the Premier League is the place to be. I always knew he was an excellent player, a little bit rough around the edges but that is because he was young and learning.

“I thought going over to Ajax would help him because technically that is what they are all about. It has not quite worked out and if he was to move on I think he would tick a lot of boxes for the Premier League with his pace and power.
“I think he can become a very very good footballer. Just because something does not work out does not mean it is the end of the road and I think Brighton could be a good move for him.”
