Rangers expert ‘can’t believe’ what he heard about Allan McGregor while at Anfield
Allan McGregor is the firm number one at Rangers after another impressive Champions League performance.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 40-year-old’s form.
McGregor started as his side lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday (4 October).
The stopper kept the score respectable with a number of impressive saves.
Jon McLaughlin, who started the season as number one, returned to the bench at Anfield following an injury.
However, McLeish claims he now faces a monumental task to regain his status as number one.
“Everybody unanimously thinks McGregor had a fantastic game, everyone can’t believe how good he still is,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“The amount of save he made at point-blank range, you thought at least one of them would sneak inside the post.
“He somehow got fingers to a few other efforts. The nous he has and his experience in that box. He knows exactly what is going on.
“While I was down there I heard someone say that Alexander-Arnold’s free kick, maybe McGregor was a bit too far over. It was right in the top corner, I think that save was only for superman.
“I think McLaughlin has some task to get back in now.”

McGregor has made 455 appearances for the Gers over two spells for the club.
The Light Blues are next in Premiershiaction against St Mirren on Saturday (8 October).
