Rangers expert delivers insight on Ryan Kent struggles – ‘from what I know’

Alan Hutton has claimed Ryan Kent needs “an arm around his shoulder” from Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers and Scotland defender suggested the 25-year-old is lacking confidence at Ibrox.

Kent is yet to score in the 2022-23 campaign.

The winger squandered a glorious chance to get off the mark in a 2-1 win over Dundee United last time out (17 September).

The ex-Liverpool man has entered the final 12 months of his contract in Glasgow.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Kent’s struggles this season, Hutton said:

“From what I know of Ryan Kent, and I have met him a few times, he is a player who needs an arm around his shoulder. He needs that more than tough love.

“Under Steven Gerrard I think he got that.

“Look, Ryan Kent will be the first to admit that he has to do better, especially in regards to numbers.

“He likes to take people one. He likes one v ones. It is just his end product.

“At this moment in time he is trying a bit too hard. He snatches at the opportunity against Dundee United.

“If he is full of confidence that would be in the back of the net. He snatched at it though which suggests he is thinking about it too much.

“It will come because there is not doubting his ability. He can up his numbers. It is just about steady improvements week on week.”
