Rangers expert drops ‘big’ Kemar Roofe claim after what he spotted

Kemar Roofe won’t be ready to start for Rangers against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday (30 August).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton insisted Roofe is one of the “best strikers” Michael Beale has within his ranks.

The 30-year-old was back in the stating lineup for the first time since April 2022 for the Light Blues’ 2-0 win over Ross County on Saturday (26 August) and scored the opening goal just over 20 minutes into his return.

The striker had been sidelined with a knee injury for the majority of the 2022-23 campaign and made just six appearances for 147 minutes of playing action.

The Gers take on PSV on Wednesday (30 August) in the second leg of their Champions League play off with the tie even at 2-2 ahead of the game in Eindhoven.

When asked if Roofe could feature in the starting XI again, Hutton told Football Insider:Beale has got options at the top end of the pitch, especially with Lawrence coming back although it will be too soon for him.

I thought Roofe did really well for his first start in a long period of time and he has got minutes under his belt now. He is a very clever player, he is the glue, he is one of those players you can bounce off.

I just worry that it is maybe such a big game and it has come round too quickly. There is not much time for him to recover from the weekend and then go again so they do need to be careful and not throw him in at the deep end.

If they can keep him fit and get his minutes up I think he is probably one of the best strikers that they have.
