Rangers expert drops ‘big’ Robby McCrorie claim after talks reveal

Robby McCrorie has a “big” decision over whether the leave Rangers permanently this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said Jack Butland was signed to be the club’s number one for the foreseeable future.

The Light Blues announced the signing of Butland last month (6 June) on a four-year deal following the expiration of his Crystal Palace contract.

McCrorie had been third choice at Ibrox during the 2022-23 season with Jon McLaughlin starting the season as number one between the sticks, shortly being replaced by Allan McGregor.

McCrorie did enjoy a spell in the team at the end of the campaign but is likely to fall down the pecking order again next term.

The 25-year-old has two years remaining on his contract in Glasgow but has reportedly held talks with Michael Beale about his future at the club.

Hutton insisted McCrorie has a tough decision to make this summer.

If you look at the bigger picture, Butland is coming in to play for the foreseeable future,” he told Football Insider.

Unless something goes wrong that is clearly the plan moving forward.

McCrorie is of an age where I think he has to play. He has had a taste at Rangers, he is probably not quite at the level of being their number one but I do think he has got the potential.

It is a big decision, does he actually want to leave on a permanent and go and try somewhere else or is he willing to go out on loan to come back and be the Rangers number one in the future?

It is a hard decision to make and one he will not take lightly.
