Rangers expert drops ‘huge’ verdict as ’emotional’ Philippe Clement footage analysed

Rangers manager Philippe Clement “shouldn’t have” stormed straight down the tunnel after his defeat to Ross County on Sunday (14 April).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton suggested that the “emotion got the better” of Clement, 50, after the Staggies inflicted a 3-2 win to dent Rangers’ title hopes.

Sky Sports footage showed the Belgian head straight to the dressing room as the full-time whistle blew in the Highlands – a reaction that left many Rangers fans frustrated and angered.

Ross County boss Don Cowie revealed after his massive win that Clement came back and apologised for snubbing the expected post-match handshake and admitted that he had “no issues” with the Gers boss’ fury.

Hutton admitted that he understood the manager’s anger and reaction after such an unexpected loss, but noted that initial reactions are not always acceptable.

“Emotion sometimes gets the better of you,” he told Football Insider.

“We’ve all been there when there are difficult times and you have a little think about it and think that you shouldn’t have done that.

“The loss was huge, but Clement went back out after and spoke to Don Cowie and I understand why he was frustrated.

“You also need to understand that there’s a lot of emotion involved.

“The game had literally just finished, he was angry and emotional and sometimes your reactions aren’t the correct ones.

“I’m sure he’s made up for it.”
