Rangers expert fears ‘troubling’ Dujon Sterling blow – ‘It will be very difficult’
Rangers ace Dujon Sterling is in a “troubling” situation as he can’t secure a regular position.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton praised the 24-year-old’s versatility, but claimed being a “utility player” could be a long-term issue for him.
Sterling, a right-back by trade, has been utilised across multiple positions this season including defensive midfield, left-back and left midfield.
He made just two appearances in Rangers’ opening 14 league games but has been handed regular minutes since Philippe Clement’s arrival at Ibrox.

Hutton claimed Sterling nailing down his preferred right-back spot will be “very difficult” considering captain James Taverneir’s excellence, but he urged the former Chelsea man to show Clement what he’s capable of.
“Me personally, I wouldn’t really like being a utility player,” he told Football Insider.
“You want to be in your preferred position and show people what you can do there.
“When you start moving around, from what I know, it’s not ideal for your own situation even if it’s good for the team.
“When Sterling’s come on, whether it be centre-midfield, centre-right or right-back, he’s played at a high standard.
“He won the foul for the penalty [against St Johnstone] and he shows great pace down the line.
“But it’s troubling for a player to be moving around.

“Tavernier plays in his preferred position and it will be very difficult to dislodge him there.
“But it’s up to Sterling to show the manager that he’s capable of doing that.”
