Rangers expert issues ‘big’ Jon McLaughlin verdict after Giovanni van Bronckhorst confession
Alan Hutton is confident Jon McLaughlin will be the number one goalkeeper at Rangers for the remainder of this season.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said McLaughlin will have to “produce big performances” to stay ahead of Allan McGregor.
McLaughlin has started all three of Rangers’ games so far this season.

On Tuesday (2 August), the ex-Sunderland shot-stopper played in Rangers third round Champions League qualifier – a 2-0 defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise.
As quoted by Football Scotland (30 July), Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted it has been “difficult to choose” between McLaughlin and McGregor this season.
When asked if he thought McLaughlin will be first choice for the remainder of the season for the Gers, Hutton told Football Insider: “At this moment in time yes.
“I think Giovanni van Bronckhorst kind of held back when he was asked the question.
“The big thing for me was, first game of the season McLaughlin was in goals. Then first real big test, first big game of the season against Union he was in goals so that kind of screams to me that he’s the first choice at this moment in time.

“It’s going to be difficult for him because he knows Allan McGregor is sitting there waiting for an opportunity and it’s big gloves to fill for him.
“We’ll have to see how it plays out. He’s going to have to produce some big performances to stay number one.“
In other news, Alan Hutton has tipped Rangers to sanction ‘£5m’ Borna Barisic exit after Saturday development.
