Rangers expert: Jack Butland struck by ‘devastating’ new blow
Rangers star Jack Butland is out of contention to be selected for England’s squad for Euro 2024 in what is a devastating blow for him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed the goalkeeper would be finding it “really hard” to deal with his international snub after his excellent season at Ibrox.
Butland, 31, was reportedly considered to be called up for the Three Lions squad for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium this month, but manager Gareth Southgate opted for Jordan Pickford, Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale.
He has not made an appearance for his country since September 2018 but has helped Rangers to the best defensive record in the Scottish top flight this season.
Rangers ace Jack Butland unlikely to make Euros, claims Hutton
Hutton did not fancy Butland’s chances of making the plane for the Euros in Germany this summer, but noted that he must keep up his “outstanding” form for the Gers if he wants a chance.
“It seems like Butland is out of contention for the Euros,” he told Football Insider.
“His performances since he’s been at Rangers have been outstanding, so I think there will always be someone at England looking at him.
“They know that he’s more than capable, but it’s pretty devastating, it must be really hard for him to deal with.
“There was a lot of noise about him possibly making the squad for the international break, but that didn’t happen.
“Then Sam Johnstone gets taken out of the squad and he’s still not considered.

“You really think he’s fallen right down the pecking order and it will be really difficult for him to get into that Euros squad.
“The only thing he can do is focus on what he can do – play well for Rangers.”
