Rangers expert ‘laughing’ at Scott Brown as controversial footage analysed

Referee Willie Collum was right to not give Rangers ace Fabio Silva a second yellow card in their 2-0 Scottish Cup win against Ayr United on Saturday (10 February).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed Ayr manager Scott Brown, who was adamant the Wolves loanee should have been given a second yellow, was incorrect.

Silva, who bagged the second goal after Borna Barisic’s opener, was booked in the 24th minute at Ibrox, but Brown claimed Collum buckled under pressure by not sending the striker off for a late challenge on George Stanger after the break.

The 21-year-old did make contact with the Ayr defender, but Collum deemed it soft enough to keep him on the field.

Scott Brown “raging” over Rangers controvsersy

Hutton claimed he found Celtic hero Brown’s comments amusing, but admitted he’d be “raging” if he was dismissed for such a challenge.

“I was laughing about Brown’s comments,” he told Football Insider.

“It wasn’t a red card for me.

“I think what Willie Collum did was go early with the yellow cards.

“He brandished one early when he could have just had a word with the players.

“Then that would bring the pressure on the players for their second tackles.

“Silva does touch [Stanger], but if I was to get sent off for that, I’d be absolutely raging.

“So for me, I don’t think it was enough for a second yellow.”
