Rangers expert makes ‘amazing’ claim as Dujon Sterling agrees terms

Alan Hutton has insisted Dujon Sterling won’t be happy to sit on the bench at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender suggested that after rejecting a contract extension from parent club Chelsea, Sterling won’t want to come to Rangers unless he is guaranteed playing time.

On 14 May, sources told this site that the Light Blues have finalised the signing of the 23-year-old after he rejected contract offers from from the Blues and loan club Stoke City.

The right-back’s current contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire in the summer following the conclusion of his loan at Stoke.

Sterling is now closing in on a move to Ibrox and has already had a tour of the stadium and Auchenhowie training headquarters with a medical to be scheduled.

Although a right-back by trade, Sterling is a versatile defender who has been playing across the back line during his time in Stoke.

When asked if it is a boost to Rangers if the defender chooses them over the likes of Chelsea, Hutton told Football Insider:It would be an interesting thing because he will be moving on the fact that he wants to play football.

Rangers

He probably looks at Chelsea and thinks they are an amazing club but the direction they are going in, buying players, Reece James is there for the foreseeable, he probably does not see himself getting in there.

He is not going to want to come to Rangers to not play but you know [James] Tavernier is the captain and playing week in week out. So it will be an interesting battle.
