Rangers expert makes ‘big’ John Lundstram offer claim after confirmed news
Alan Hutton is delighted John Lundstram wants to sign a new contract with Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender insisted teams in Scotland can’t afford to let “big” players run their contracts down.
The 29-year-old’s current contract runs until 2024 after he joined from Sheffield United back in 2021.
As quoted by footballscotland (15 April), the midfielder said he would “love” to stay at the club for as long as he can but has heard “nothing” about a new deal.
Lundstram has made 45 appearances across all competitions for the Gers this season and has scored five goals in those outings.
The Light Blues could lose up to eight players who are out of contract this summer, including Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack.
When asked if it is good to see players who are desperate to stay given how many could leave this summer, Hutton told Football Insider: “Absolutely.
“I think you want your regular first team players to sign long term deals. We see it too often now, that the bigger players run their contracts down.
“You look at the likes of Morelos and Kent who had a big value on their head, that is gone now.

“That is something teams in Scotland can’t afford to slip through the net. So for someone to want to tie down his future to the club is brilliant.
“I think he is a key player at the moment and to have someone who wants to stay is obviously great for the manager.“
