Rangers expert: Michael Beale has found new goalkeeper after confirmed news

Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers have found their number two goalkeeper for next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Gers defender suggested on-loan Jay Hogarth will be hoping to make his mark on the first team after a successful campaign on loan.

The 19-year-old has spent the season at League One side Alloa Athletic and has made 42 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Hogarth was between the sticks for Alloa’s 5-2 Championship playoff defeat to Hamilton Academical on Saturday (13 May) and helped them arrive at the playoff spots with 11 clean sheets in the league.

As quoted by footballscotland (13 May), Light Blues boss Michael Beale has all but confirmed number one Allan McGregor’s exit saying his side will “lose one keeper” this summer because he is out of contract.

23-year-old Robby McCrorie has been in goals in the Gers’ last two games and kept clean sheets in both, including in the 3-0 win over Celtic on Saturday (13 May).

When asked if Hogarth has what it takes to be second choice to whoever is number one next season, Hutton told Football Insider:That will be the aim.

He has gone out on loan to get that first team experience, which he has now got.

He will understand the situation at Rangers moving forward, that they are going through a transition with goalkeepers so there is an opportunity there. It is about whether he can grasp it, in pre-season or whenever he is given it.

He will have to show the manager he is capable of handling that. Ultimately your number one can get injured and you will have to call on these guys.

I am sure the manager will be looking at him over pre-season to see if he is capable of that.
