Rangers expert suggests ‘big’ Ryan Jack worry after source’s contract reveal

Alan Hutton has suggested that the “biggest” worry about Ryan Jack signing a new Rangers deal is whether he can stay fit for the full season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said Jack is the kind of player Michael Beale needs to keep hold of.

On 16 February, sources told this site that the Light Blues will open contract talks with the 30-year-old after Sunday’s League Cup final against Celtic.

The midfielder’s current deal expires in the summer and the Gers are yet to begin talks with the player over an extension.

Jack is believed to be keen to extend his stay at Ibrox beyond the summer.

Although the Gers have added Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin to the midfield, Hutton said Jack is still needed in the squad.

I think if you look at the situation at the moment, there are a lot of contracts up in the air and players coming towards the end,” he told Football Insider.

I think he is someone that still has a lot to offer. He is a different type, he is a different profile to some of the players that are already there, the likes of Raskin, Cantwell, [Malik] Tillman, all forward thinking players.

Rangers

You need that industrious guy that is going to work hard and win the ball back. The biggest thing that has been over him is can he stay fit for the whole season.

I think when he is fit and firing he is a very important part of the team.
