Rangers expert suggests Souttar is on his way after new twist

John Souttar’s Rangers future is uncertain after his latest injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton suggested Michael Beale might look to bring in a replacement for Souttar if he doesn’t feel he can stay fit for a full season.

The 26-year-old joined Ibrox last summer but spent most of the season on the sidelines after picking up an injury right at the start of the campaign.

The defender returned to fitness for the back end of the season and was impressing with his performances.

But Souttar missed Scotland’s training camp after picking up a knock ahead of their Euro qualifier against Norway on Saturday (17 June) but reportedly returned to training on Wednesday (14 June).

Hutton is worried about Souttar’s future at Rangers if he can’t keep himself fit.

It is a shame for him,” he told Football Insider.

I do feel sorry for him because he is an excellent footballer. I think he had a strong end to the season, he showed why Rangers bought him.

The question mark has always been can he stay fit? He has missed the camp away with Scotland so we will have to wait and see how fit he is and whether or not he will make the Norway game.

But there has always been a question mark over him of can he stay fit for a long period of time.

I think Michael Beale is looking for someone to partner Connor Goldson moving forward and will be wondering whether he can trust Souttar to stay injury-free for the full season.

He might have to bring in someone for cover or to replace him.”
