Rangers expert ‘understands’ Napoli ‘agreement in place’ after update
Alan Hutton has insisted it is “only fair” Napoli will not allow Rangers to have away fans at the game in Italy (26 October).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back having away fans would have been a benefit to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
On 2 October, Gers fan group Broomloan Collective released at statement in response to their request for away tickets to be available for the game in Italy.
The Light Blues contacted the Serie A side to ask for an allocation but their request was rejected on the grounds of “sporting integrity”.
On 11 September, the club confirmed that no away fans would be allowed in the away leg of the fixture after Napoli fans were shut out of Ibrox due to a lack of policing for the home leg (14 September).
Hutton said Gers fans cannot feel too aggrieved at the decision.
“It obviously makes a difference [having fans],” he told Football Insider.
“Sometimes it gives you that little bit extra drive to get through difficult situations, especially when they sing as loud as the Rangers fans do. Of course it would have been a benefit for them to be there.

“But I totally understand it from Napoli’s point of view. They weren’t allowed to be there at Ibrox.
“They agreed at the time that it would be the same when Rangers went over to Napoli so it has to stay that way. It is only fair because otherwise Rangers would have an advantage with their fans.“
