Rangers eye late August forward deal – report

By Harry Sykes

Rangers are confident of signing Hearts winger Jamie Walker in a late August deal, according to reports.

Ibrox Noise claim that the Scottish giants are likely to prise the wide forward, 24, from Tynecastle shortly before the transfer window shuts next month.

It is said that the deal is essentially done but a number of red tape hurdles must be cleared before Walker can put pen to paper.

Ibrox Noise report that Walker is already cup-tied in the League Cup and Hearts are unlikely to offload him before the two clubs meet in the Scottish Premiership on 19 August.

Nevertheless, there is confidence that the deal will be sealed and he will be wearing a Rangers jersey before the end of the window.

This comes after the Scottish Sun claimed that Rangers are preparing a final take-it-or-leave-it offer of £600,000 for Walker, 24, after having a £500,000 bid rejected.

He has just one year remaining on his contract with Hearts and will be available to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Football Insider verdict:

After the huge influx of foreign imports, it is clear Caixinha is now focusing on signing proven Scottish Premiership performers. About time, too. There is a real hit-or-miss feel about Rangers’ summer shopping and they need to land a few more players who have showed they can deliver in the top flight. Walker certainly fits the bill. He had an impressive scoring and creating record for Hearts last season and is entering his peak years. It would be a massive boost to the club if they can pull off this deal.
