Rangers launched last-ditch midfielder swap bid – report
By Harry Sykes
Rangers failed in a late-window bid to sign Hearts midfielder Jamie Walker after offering Jason Holt in part-exchange, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim that the Glasgow giants reignited their summer-long pursuit of Walker, 24, on deadline day after having two previous offers rejected.
Rangers attempted to smooth the way for a deal with Hearts by offering a cash sum in addition to handing over Holt.
It is said that this came after Ibrox manager Pedro Caixinha refused to pay any more than £600,000 for the £1million-vauled winger.
The Scottish Sun report that Walker is very keen for a move over to Rangers and has no plans on extending his Hearts contract, which expires next summer.
He could join as a free agent next summer or, alternatively, sign for a cheaper fee in the January window.
Walker is a player in demand after scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists from 43 matches for Hearts in all competitions last season.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club made a last-gasp move to sign a £45,000-a-week striker who would have catapulted them to the league title.
