Rangers fans demand Lyall Cameron recall after ‘pathetic’ incident at Aberdeen: ‘He doesn’t deserve…’
Rangers fans are desperate to see Lyall Cameron’s loan spell at Aberdeen ended early after the events that took place on his debut.
The 23-year-old has been out of favour under Danny Rohl of late, and has still started just two Premiership games since his move from Dundee in the summer.
Cameron’s future at Rangers had been uncertain in the build-up to the January transfer window, and the Glasgow giants ultimately decided to loan him out last week, as he hadn’t featured in a matchday squad since December.
Aberdeen were the beneficiaries of that decision, but the midfielder’s move to Pittodrie has prompted even more headaches for his parent club so far.

Rangers fans react as ‘rancid’ Aberdeen fans reveal banner
Aberdeen fans were fuming with Cameron’s signing, given that it includes no option to buy the youngster at the end of his initial loan spell.
The Dons have a proud fanbase, and they are used to competing with the Old Firm duo at the top end of the table, rather than languishing down in the bottom half as they are at the moment.
However, that materialised as a less than discrete dig at Cameron’s signing during their Scottish Cup victory over Raith Rovers on Sunday, as a banner was held aloft in the stands saying “no Old Firm loans.”
Cameron turned in a man of the match performance on his debut for his new club, but Rangers fans feel that he has been seriously underappreciated by his new club.
Gers and Aberdeen supporters have a fiery relationship, and the Rangers faithful were quick to pile in on X in reaction to the incident.
Several supporters demanded that the midfielder be recalled, and that he is not deserving of the abuse he has received, while others branded the actions of their Aberdeen counterparts as “rancid” and “pathetic.”
There were also fans who suggested that the Aberdeen supporters would have had no issue if Cameron had arrived from Celtic.
- @CG_Meek: “Aberdeen fans would have had no issues if he was a Celtic player.”
- @MrTrueBlue1872: “Don’t let the banner fool you, if it was Luke McCowan from Celtic they wouldn’t have an issue.”
- @MinicooAndy: “Well done Lyall. Hope that shirt isn’t too itchy and you’re filtering out the vile element of the Aberdeen support.”
Can Lyall Cameron play against Rangers during Aberdeen spell?
Rangers are firmly within the Premiership title race, and they will be desperate to ensure that they are as close to perfect as possible between now and the end of the campaign.
They recently notched a pair of back-to-back 2-0 wins over Aberdeen in the early stages of 2026, but still need to face them once more before the league is split in two halves.
Aberdeen are set to travel to Ibrox on 21 March, just three games from the end of the initial phase of the campaign.
It hasn’t yet been confirmed whether Cameron will be available to play against his parent club in that fixture, but it is highly unusual for loan clubs to be allowed that as part of the agreement.
Given Cameron’s performance on his debut at Pittodrie, Rangers will be quietly pleased if that is the case.
