Rangers fans in love with Tuur Rommens as Calvin Bassey comparison emerges

Rangers fans are ecstatic with the start that Tuur Rommens has made to his career at Ibrox.

The Belgian turned in another impressive display for Danny Rohl’s side as they downed Hearts with a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon, a result that was crucial in the context of the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Gers are now just two points behind Derek McInnes’ leaders, and have renewed hope of being able to race ahead of them and Celtic to claim the title at the end of the season.

Rommens has quickly caught the eye of the supporters following his arrival from Westerlo in the January transfer window, and it has already prompted some pretty striking comparisons.

Tuur Rommens hailed for ‘sensational’ display

Youssef Chermiti stole the show for Rangers as he netted a hat-trick in Sunday’s victory, but there has been a feeling among the fans that Rohl and his staff got strong performances across the pitch.

Not least on the left side of the defence, where Rommens was heavily influential in both the attacking and defensive play all afternoon.

The 22-year-old made only his second league appearance for the Light Blues after his winter move, but fans have already taken to him and embraced the quality that he provides.

Supporters took to X to share their delight at Rommens’ display after the game, and one even made a striking comparison between him and former Rangers left-back Calvin Bassey, who is now at Fulham.

Another suggested that he is the best left-back since the legendary Arthur Numan, before adding “I won’t be told otherwise, so nobody bother replying.”

It was also suggested that “Numan has posters of Rommens on his wall,” while another fan labelled the defender’s display against Hearts as “sensational.”

Rangers fans already have Tuur Rommens exit fear

Rangers fans have become accustomed to seeing their most promising stars walk away from them in recent years, as the Scottish top flight can no longer compete with the financial power of the Premier League.

It has already become clear from the fans’ early opinions on Rommens that they fear that he may not be playing in their colours for too much longer, despite him only being weeks into his time at Ibrox.

Rohl and Co. will be hoping to see him make the position his own and become a dominant force in the Scottish Premiership for several years, but it may only be a matter of time before a truly lucrative offer comes their way.

Nevertheless, he is one of several promising January signings that has helped to restore the fans’ faith in the recruitment team after some dismal summer deals, and they will be hoping that there are many more signings like Rommens on the way.
