Rangers fans mock Celtic as Martin O’Neill lines up ‘hilarious’ first signing at Parkhead

Celtic look set to bring Kyogo Furuhashi back to the Old Firm outfit after departing with the attacker last year.

The Hoops sold the Furuhashi to Rennes last January, and he quickly made the move to Birmingham in the summer, but his time at St Andrew’s has been a torrid one.

The Japanese international is yet to find the back of the net in the Championship, despite making 23 appearances to date.

Now, after Football Insider exclusively confirmed that Celtic had reignited their interest in Furuhashi, on 8 January, The Scottish Sun has reported that the attacker is set to return to the Hoops on loan.

However, despite the Japanese international being a monster the last time he was in Scotland, Rangers fans have mocked the potential deal.

The Hoops are in dire need of reinforcements. Their 3-1 defeat to Rangers on the weekend has left them third, six points behind Hearts at the summit.

As a result, Martin O’Neill looks set to complete his first signing since rejoining Celtic in Furuhashi.

The attacker netted 85 goals in 165 matches in all competitions before he departed for Rennes.

However, Rangers fans believe that the potential signing is laughable given how poor he has been for the Blues.

How bad has Furuhashi been for Birmingham?

Furuhashi has certainly not performed to his previous standards at Birmingham.

According to Fotmob on 8 January, the attacker has multiple terrible stats that have contributed to his dire 2025-26 campaign to date.

As it stands, he is only completing 61.7 per cent of his passes and 33 per cent of his dribbles.

On top of this, despite averaging 2.86 shots and a 0.48 xG per game, Furuhashi is yet to hit the back of the net in the Championship.

Therefore, if Celtic do go through with the deal, it remains to be seen if O’Neill will be able to return him to his previous form at the Old Firm club.
