Rangers fans mock Luke McCowan’s bizarre Celtic claim ahead of Old Firm showdown

Rangers fans have mocked Luke McCowan for his thoughts on the Scottish Premiership title race ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby.

The two sides face off at Ibrox in a crucial clash, as they both look to catch Hearts.

On Thursday, Celtic crashed out of the Europa League, with a 4-2 aggregate defeat, with full focus now on domestic affairs.

However, despite the defeat, they actually beat Stuttgart 1-0 on the night, with McCowan scoring the only goal.

As a result, this appears to have instilled confidence in the Hoops star, as he insists “no team in that league touches them” if they are on form, much to the amusement of Rangers’ fanbase.

Rangers fans mock Luke McCowan’s title race comments

For both Rangers and Celtic, their campaign has been a disappointment.

Both clubs have vastly underperformed in Europe as well as domestically, which has led to a series of dismissals in the dugout.

Therefore, it is a minor miracle that they are still in the Scottish Premiership title race, with Rangers only four points behind, while Celtic are six points behind, and they also possess a game in hand.

However, their league campaigns have also been a major wake-up call, as many clubs in the division have proven they are capable of challenging the Old Firm sides on the pitch.

Celtic have already lost seven matches in the division this season, while Rangers have drawn an eye-watering 11 games.

Therefore, when McCowan came out after the Stuttgart match and said, “We know if we’re at it – no team in that league touches us”, the Ibrox fanbase were quick to laugh at the Hoops star.

Who is the favourite for the Scottish Premiership title?

According to Opta via Sky Sports on 26 February, Hearts are the heavy favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title as it stands.

The Jambos have a 76.7 per cent chance of finishing the campaign at the summit, in what would be an incredible shock.

Rangers follow, with a 14.6 per cent chance of finishing top, with Celtic having just an 8.5 per cent chance.

Motherwell, who aren’t out of the race yet, are deemed to have basically no chance, at 0.2 per cent odds.

However, it remains to be seen who will lift the Scottish Premiership title, with the weekend’s fixtures set to have a major say on the race.
