Rangers fans react to Bruno Alves display against Sheffield Wednesday
By Harvey Byrne
Summer centre-back signing Bruno Alves lined up at Hillsborough on Sunday afternoon as Rangers ran out 2-0 victors over Sheffield Wednesday – and fans took to Twitter to hail his display.
The 35-year-old centre-back veteran is one of nine players to have completed a move to Ibrox this summer.
He is one of the most recognisable names out of the summer Gers additions and fans have been keen to see what he can offer after he missed the Euorpa League clashes against Progres Niederkorn earlier in the summer due to the Confederations Cup and on Sunday he impressed as he helped the Glasgow giants to a clean sheet against the English Championship.
Goals from each of Josh Windass and Kenny Miller ensured victory for Pedro Caixinha’s men, but a lot of the focus was on the Portugal international after he helped keep out Gary Hooper and Jordan Rhodes.
Much of the supporters commented on his dominant prescence in the Rangers back line and many felt that he made light work of the encounter.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Alves has had a fantastic career to date, winning the Portuguese top-flight three times with Porto alongside lifting the Russian Premier League and Super Lig with both Zenit St. Petersburg and Fenerbahce respectively.
He also lifted the Euro 2016 trophy with Portugal just last summer and he will be looking to bring his success with him to Glasgow.
