‘Good joke lads’, ‘Throwing the towel in’ – Rangers fans rage over latest official statement

Rangers fans have taken to social media to rage over the news that Graeme Murty has been named the club’s permanent manager until the end of the season.

The club revealed on Friday via their official Twitter account and website that the former youth team coach, who had taken on the role as caretaker manager following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking, would be taking on the position full time until the end of the current campaign.

The statement from the club’s board states that Murty will be given full control over the club’s recruitment during the upcoming January transfer window, having demonstrated his ability in a managerial role during his time in charge.

However the Rangers faithful were not as optimistic over the appointment, and took to Twitter to voice their anger and frustrations at the decision, many left fuming with the board’s inability to secure another manager.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

Murty has been in charge of the first team squad at Ibrox since the end of October, with Pedro Caixinha departing after less than a year in the dugout.

During his nine-game spell as caretaker boss, he has picked up six wins and suffered three defeats, and his first match as permanent manager will come on Saturday away at Kilmarnock.
