'Worse than a man short', 'Backwards step' – Rangers fans react to reported January deal
Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday looks set to return to Ibrox early from his season-long loan deal in Azerbaijan – and Gers fans are underwhelmed by the prospect of the 26-year-old returning.
Halliday was bombed out by former Gers boss Pedro Caixinha and penned a season-long loan deal with Gabala however the boyhood Rangers fan failed to make any impact in the former Soviet state.
With Rangers short on bodies, manager Graeme Murty has opted to recall Halliday from his loan move and the midfielder will be part of the party heading to Florida at the end of the week.
However, fans have apparently seen enough of Halliday last season to know he’s not going to be the answer this time around.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
Halliday has made 90 appearances, scoring 15 times, for the Gers since signing on a free transfer in 2015 after impressing on trial.
While in Axerbaijan, Halliday has only made three league appearances in five months in a disappointing loan spell.
With Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack and Jordan Rossiter all injured, the Gers are short of personnel in midfield and Halliday should give them some more depth – if not exactly adding quality – to a midfielder which has been overrun in games at times.
