Rangers handed big ‘catalyst’ ahead of Celtic showdown – McLeish

Alex McLeish has tipped the 2-1 win over Dundee to be a “catalyst” for improved performances from Rangers ahead of this week’s clash with Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers boss claimed the victory at Dens Park was “one of the best wins” in terms of character shown by the Light Blues.

Rangers came back from 1-0 down to seal victory over the Dark Blues and remain three points off table-toppers Celtic.

The Glasgow rivals meet at Ibrox for the first game back after the international break.

McLeish insisted the win at Dundee and the international break could give the Gers a big boost heading into April.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think it was probably one of the best wins, character-wise, they’ve had in the whole season.

“That’s a game Rangers would have dropped points in in recent weeks. That should be the catalyst for the next game and the run in.

“I feared if they dropped any more points, it would be really, really difficult to turn around Celtic’s lead.

“It’s very important. They’d have probably liked the momentum and just to go straight into the game this week. The international break has put the scuppers on that.

“However, it gives Giovanni the chance to analyse the whole process over the past few weeks and put in a good strategy for the Celtic game.

Rangers

“I do think it was a good time for them to get the break. The intensity of the European games, they rose to really high levels. You kind of saw the dip coming back into the domestic league.

“To get a wee rest like that, I’m sure all the players will have been looking forward to it.”

In other news, pundit cannot believe Rangers could lose senior star on a free.
