Rangers have got ticket announcement spot on but must use it to support Gerrard’s rebuild

COMMENT

Rangers’ decision to reduce the number of tickets available for visiting supporters has won widespread approval from Gers fans for slashing the number of Celtic fans attending Old Firm games – but it must be used to give Steven Gerrard extra funds in the transfer market.

The Gers confirmed the decision on their official website on Thursday with Celtic looking at only receiving around 800 tickets after getting 6500 for years.

With thousands of new season tickets expected to become available then it should give the Gers a sizeable injection of funds in the imminent future to supplement that already made available to Gerrard by the Ibrox board.

Although Gers fans will love the tribal aspect of the decision to reduce Celtic’s allocation, the financial one makes even more sense to the Ibrox giants rather than simply being done to antagonise their biggest rivals.

Getting more fans buying season tickets on a consistent basis also increases the prospect of Ibrox being increased beyond its current 50,000 capacity in the future if the Gers can maintain the interest and continue to attract new supporters.

While Gers chairman has come in for criticism from fans for a number of poorly thought out decisions, it appears the South African-based businessman has got this one absolutely spot on.
