Rangers have learned their lesson after source’s Borna Barisic reveal – expert
Rangers have learned their lesson on player contracts.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton insisted the club have learned from their mistakes of allowing players to run down their contracts as they close in on a new deal for Borna Barisic.
The 30-year-old has entered the final year of his Ibrox contract after joining from Croatian side NK Osijek in 2018.
On 24 June, Football Insider revealed that the left-back is close to agreeing a new contract with the Light Blues.
Talks have been underway over an extension and both parties are hopeful of reaching an agreement.
The Gers have seen prized assets Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent leave the club for nothing this summer after failing to tie them down to new deals.
Hutton is pleased to see the Gers are not repeating past mistakes and trying to settle Barisic’s future early.
“I think he has done really well for the club,” he told Football Insider.
“He has had up and down moments. I think a team like Rangers suits him where he can afford to go forward, his delivery is second to none.

“Defensively there are question marks but you do not want to let contracts run down and assets leave for free again.
“Rangers have seen what can happen when they do that and lose out on a lot of money. So to tie him down I think is a good idea.“
