Rangers have ‘learnt their lesson’ after £2m development – Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed Rangers have “learnt their lesson” after receiving a £225,000 fine for price fixing.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said the fine is “not ideal” for the Glasgow club but insisted they have to “pay the price” for breaching regulations.

On 27 September, the Competition and Markets Authority reported that JD Sports and Elite Sports “broke competition law” by fixing the prices of a number of Rangers replica kits during the 2018-19 season.

The report also found that the Ibrox club took part in the price fixing between September and November 2018 of one adult home short-sleeved replica shirt and as such received a lesser fine than the retailers.

In light of the decision Michael Grenfell, Executive Director of Enforcement at the CMA, said the fines send a “clear message to football clubs” that the behaviour will not be tolerated.

Hutton said Rangers are suffering the consequences of their actions.

“It’s not ideal, I think it was between 2018 and 2019 so with the fine and being given into trouble I think they’ll have learnt their lesson,” he told Football Insider.

“I saw JD Sports had been fined for it, they were more heavily fined. I think with Rangers it was to do with one home replica shirt that they were fined that amount for.

“Again it’s not ideal but it’s something that if they’ve breached the regulations they’ll have to pay the price.
