Rangers have perfect Alfredo Morelos replacement at Ibrox after source’s £10m+ news – pundit
Rangers have a ready-made Alfredo Morelos replacement in Kemar Roofe, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aberdeen and Premier League forward admitted Morelos is a “massive loss” but Roofe has proved he can step up in recent weeks.
The 29-year-old has scored four times in his last three appearances including 109 minutes of the 2-1 win over Celtic after extra time in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.
Rangers confirmed earlier this month (5 April) that Morelos will miss the rest of the campaign with a thigh injury.
An Ibrox source then told Football Insider (7 April) that club chiefs fear he may have played his last game for the club as they are braced for bids this summer.
It is understood they value Morelos at £13million as he is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the current campaign.
Asked whether Roofe has proven he can step up in the Colombian’s absence, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “Yes, I think he has.
“It’s come at the right time too. That hat-trick last weekend set him up nicely for those two big games.
“When you score a goal or two – and he got three – you are absolutely firing and your confidence is bubbling inside you.
“You can’t wait to get back out there, you feel like you’re going to score again and you know you’re going to score.

“Kemar Roofe is one of those players who when you get on a run can score each week.
“Yes, Morelos is a massive loss in Europe and domestically but this is where the challenge is laid down for Roofe. Can you be the main man? Can you be the goal-getter? Can we rely on you? The answer, so far, is yes.”
In other news, Rangers are the perfect fit for Gareth Bale as a deal is tipped on one condition.
