Rangers have plan to ‘whip up’ home fans v Celtic after confirmed news – Kenny
Rangers have a better chance of beating Celtic this weekend after the club withdrew from the Sydney Cup.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider following the Gers’ decision to cancel their Old Firm friendly against the Hoops.
On Thursday (31 March), Rangers confirmed they have withdrawn from the friendly competition scheduled for November in Australia, stating organisers were “unwilling to fulfil their commitments”.
The Athletic report the Gers terminated their agreement after citing breaches in the contract, which included failing to recognise the Old Firm brand in all branding.
Rangers’ last league game (v Dundee on 20 March) was repeatedly held up by fans protesting the club’s involvement in the competition.
Kenny insists Rangers now have a better chance of beating Celtic (3 April) as everyone at the club is pulling in the same direction.
“Listen, this was always going to happen,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I think they were always going to pull out, it is just about how they can do it.
“We saw the protests at the last game and that is far from ideal when you are trying to fight for a title.
“I imagine there were protests planned for this weekend, those won’t happen now.
“That means the Rangers fans at Ibrox can focus on cheering their team on in a game they absolutely have to win.

“I wonder if this was timed, part of a plan with Celtic coming to Ibrox on Sunday.
“It might just whip up the fans which can give the players an extra yard of pace.”
