Rangers have shown ‘big sign of intent’ after deal agreed

Rangers are showing positive signs of backing manager Danny Rohl after their latest January signing was announced.

That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Rangers signed Andreas Skov Olsen until the end of the season.

Skov Olsen joined the Gers on loan from Wolfsburg to become their third signing of the January transfer window.

Rangers already have plans to turn Skov Olsen’s loan into a permanent deal at the end of the season, with the club having the option to trigger an option to buy the winger for £8.6million.

Rangers ‘keeping everybody happy’ with January investment

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Rangers have “settled down” after early season “chaos.”

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the Glasgow club can now “kick on” in pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s a big sign of intent and I think that now they’re feeling comfortable with Danny Rohl already, they’re starting to back him and I think that’s good for everybody, and it keeps everybody happy, the fans, the manager and the squad.

“I think that there’s no doubt that they’re investing, and I think that’s good to see, and I was pleased to see that. We talked about the mayhem and the chaos in both Old Firm clubs. It’s amazing how quickly Rangers have settled down there.

“Celtic still not quite, but I certainly think that is a good sign for Rangers and the Rangers fans will welcome this and expect to see quality like this coming to Ibrox, because they feel it’s their turn now to try and kick on and with Hearts there they know they’re going to have to spend again to get the talent in so it is a good sign for Rangers and I think they’ll all be pleased about it.”

Rangers could make late January move

Rangers are still looking to add a striker to their squad before the January transfer window shuts, and they have faced a blow in a move for Kieron Bowie.

Hibernian striker Bowie would prefer to move to Celtic over Rangers, meaning Rohl may have to look elsewhere to bolster his attack.

Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti have both struggled for form since their arrivals last summer, with Rangers’ top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership this season being right-back James Tavernier on five.
