Rangers have ‘taken their eye off the ball’ amid ‘huge’ claim – expert

Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers have “taken their eye off the ball” since winning the league in the 2020-21 season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said fans are clearly “frustrated” with how this season has played out ahead of a “huge” summer for the club.

As shown on Sky Sports (18 March), travelling fans protested before kick-off at Fir Park on Saturday, holding up a banner that read “time for change”.

Gers fans in the stands also held up banners with the faces of sporting director Ross Wilson and managing director Stewart Robertson crossed out.

Fans have been unhappy with Wilson this season as he has seemingly allowed important senior players such as Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos to run their contracts down and potentially leave Ibrox for nothing at the end of the season.

Wilson was also involved in the signing of John Souttar who, despite signing in the summer, has only made four appearances for the Light Blues due to an injury.

Hutton supports the fans’ decision to express their frustration.

I think it is up to the fans to voice their opinion and how they want to do that,” he told Football Insider.

You obviously want them to do it in the right way and if that is with certain banners or whatever then that is how they want to show how they are feeling.

I think moving forward it is a huge summer. I think Beale knows that, Wilson knows that as well. It is really important to close the gap.

Some of the signings probably have not worked how they would have wanted this season so the fans are voicing their frustration about it.

They think Rangers have taken their eye off the ball since winning the title. They have maybe slipped back a bit in terms of where they were and where they are now.

They are voicing their opinion and ultimately they have got a right to do that.
