Rangers in talks to sign defender after Leon King exit twist – sources

Rangers are in talks to sign a defender and will then give the green light for Leon King to leave on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that English League Two club Salford City have enquired about signing the highly rated centre-back on loan.

The 20-year-old only featured six times for Rangers last season and has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox.

The Scottish giants are working on multiple centre-back deals before the transfer deadline day with the aim of agreeing at least one before Friday’s cut-off.

A new face coming in would provide Philippe Clement with enough depth in the position to allow King to leave for this season.

Rangers could be set for a late defensive shake-up

Rangers have already signed Robin Propper this summer, but Clement is still looking for further defensive recruitments.

Despite King being highly thought of at Ibrox, the lack of game time means a move south of the border would benefit his career.

The Gers have kept clean sheets in half of their opening six games in all competitions this season.

King isn’t the only player who could be leaving Ibrox this week, as Ianis Hagi is also set to depart.

Football Insider revealed that Rapid Bucharest are in advanced talks with the Scottish giants over signing the 25-year-old.
