Rangers installed second favourites to sign goal machine at peak of his career

Rangers have been installed as second favourites to sign Motherwell striker Louis Moult this summer, according to the latest bookmaker’s odds.

Bet Victor priced the Glasgow giants at 8/1 on Thursday morning to land the forward, 25, before the transfer window cut-off.

Aberdeen are the 2/1 favourites to secure the signature of the Englishman, while English trio Derby (8/1), Crystal Palace and Leeds (both 12/1) are also in the betting running.

Moult is a player in demand after scoring 18 goals and supplying seven assists from 34 matches in all competitions last season.

He has begun the new campaign in the same fashion after recovering from groin surgery, with three League Cup encounters yielding two goals.

Motherwell have offered Moult, who is entering his peak years after turning 25 in May, a new contract but he has not signed it and his current deal expires next summer.

Rangers have already make extensive attempts to overhaul their squad in the summer market, with nine new signings already in place and Pedro Caixinha in the market to make at least two more captures.

Kenny Miller was the only Rangers forward to score more than 10 league goals in the 2016-17 campaign, with his haul of 11 paling in comparison with the top men in the Scottish Premiership such as Ross County’s Liam Boyce (23) and Celtic duo Scott Sinclair (21) and Moussa Dembele (17).

In other Rangers transfer news, a new arrival is heading in and he is poised to make his debut in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership opener against Motherwell.
