Rangers January signing: This outcast is helping me improve my game

January signing David Bates has revealed that Rangers outcast Philippe Senderos is helping him improve his game.

The 20-year-old joined the club on a permanent basis in January after a successful loan spell at the club.

Kirkcaldy-born Bates, who plays at centre-back, made the switch to his boyhood club from Raith Rovers.

Since joining the Glasgow giants, Bates is looking to establish himself as a first-team member of Mark Warburton’s squad.

The highly-rated youngster revealed that he is making huge progress during training and revealed the three players that are helping him out.

“I have learnt a lot since I came in; I am training with Clint, Phillipe and Danny Wilson every day,” Bates told the club’s official website.

“Philippe always takes me to do extra bits after training like fast feet, hitting me into my feet and defensive stuff.”

Former Premier League player Senderos joined the Gers in the summer on a free transfer but he has found first-team football hard to come by.

He made his debut for the club during the 5-1 thumping at the hands of Old Firm rivals Celtic in September where he was sent off.

Since then, the former Arsenal man has played only two more games for the club, most recently during the 1-1 draw against Ross County.

On the other hand, Bates is yet to be given a chance to prove himself for the senior team with the likes of Rob Kiernan and Clint Hill ahead of him in the pecking order.

Warburton’s side take on minnows Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup fifth round this Sunday and Bates will be hoping he can earn a start.

In other Rangers news, it has been confirmed that this senior trio have been demoted to the youth team.
