Sources: Rangers plan to sell Glen Kamara after ‘agreement’ reached

Rangers are willing to sell Glen Kamara in January after talks over a late-summer move to Nice collapsed, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder, 26, has not been a regular starter under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and he has struggled to make an impact this season.

Nice tried to push through a deadline-day deal but could not get an agreement in place before the cut-off.

Rangers

Rangers need to raise cash with at least one, and potentially two, big-name sales next year to invest in other areas of the squad.

Kamara is regarded as one of the prize assets capable of generating a £10million-plus fee, along with the likes of Ryan Kent – out of contract next year – and Alfredo Morelos.

However, the Finland international’s form has been fitful this season and he has struggled to recapture the heights of his best spell at the club in 2020-21 when Steven Gerrard was manager.

Kamara agreed a new four-year contract in September of last year that runs until the summer of 2025.

Rangers have protected the value of the player with the new deal but there is believed to be an agreement he will leave at a certain price, which is believed to be around the £10m mark.

That could be as early as next year depending on the level of the interest.

Football Insider revealed Arsenal made a move to re-sign the midfielder during the summer of 2021 and there was interest from other Premier League clubs in the summer window just gone.

They were impressed by Kamara’s performances last season in the Europa League, seen by talent spotters as a barometer of players’ ability to cut it at a high level.

Rangers

The midfielder has developed into a top-class operator since moving to Ibrox for a bargain £50,000 fee from Dundee in January 2019.

Kamara has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Rangers this season, but started only two of their Scottish Premiership fixtures.
