Rangers’ Kevin Muscat deal ‘dead’ as club ‘concerns’ revealed

Rangers’ managerial search will continue to drag on as Kevin Muscat is the latest candidate to pull out of the running.

Danny Rohl and Steven Gerrard have both pulled out of becoming Rangers boss, with the club still looking for a successor to Russell Martin.

Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Dundee United was taken by under-19 boss Steven Smith, as the Glasgow club remain in mid-table of the Scottish Premiership table, now 13 points behind league leaders Hearts.

The Gers have only won one league game all season, and have yet to win in the Europa League, and the face the prospect of travelling to Brann next still without a permanent manager.

Kevin Muscat to Rangers off

Rangers were warned they may have to wait weeks for Muscat, with the 52-year-old currently managing Shanghai Port in China.

Muscat is hoping to see out the remaining month of the campaign at Shanghai Port before moving to Glasgow amid a potential title win.

However, Muscat’s stance is the reason why Rangers will not make him their next manager.

Posting on X, [19 October], the Daily Record’s Andy Newport posted: “Rangers’ move for Kevin Muscat is dead.

Club understood to have concerns over a delayed start date despite talks reaching advanced stage.

Manager hunt goes on with multiple candidates still in the running. What was threatening to become a crisis now looks increasingly like a fiasco.”

Rangers blow in managerial search

Rangers are back to square one in their managerial hunt, with no leading contender in the race now Muscat is out.

The blow will certainly have an effect on Rangers’ poor form, with a win much-needed against Brann in the Europa League even more difficult to see coming.

Rangers face a busy schedule and a new manager now will not have much time on the training pitch between games to work with his squad, which are in urgent need of leadership.
