Mark Allen working on terminating deal for Rangers midfielder – confirmed

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday could be set for a surprise return to Ibrox in January with the Gers looking to terminate his season-long loan deal in Azerbaijan, it has been confirmed.

Halliday has made just three starts for Gabala since his move and last featured in an Azerbaijani Cup tie against Mil-Mugan in front of just 400 fans in November.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty confirmed the Gers were looking at bringing some of their loan players – such as Halliday and Michael O’Halloran – back to the club after injuries ruled out Graham Dorrans and Kenny Miller for an extended period and revealed that director of football Mark Allen is in the process of ending their loan deals.

“All options are being explored with those guys,” Murty said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“In certain areas we do lack experience and I think that showed at times against Kilmarnock.

“We are looking at recalling them and Mark Allen is on top of that at the moment.”

Halliday was a mainstay in the side under Mark Warburton before falling out of favour under Pedro Caixinha and moving to Azerbaijan on loan.

The 26-year-old has made 90 appearances, scoring 15 times, for the Gers since signing for his boyhood heroes in 2015 after impressing on trial.

The midfielder has only managed eight appearances for Gabala since moving to the former Soviet state and could return to Glasgow to try and salvage his Rangers career.

During his time with the Gers, Halliday lifted the Scottish Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup.

In other Rangers news, three Gers players could play their final games for the club against Celtic this week.
