Rangers ‘looking at’ permanent Aaron Ramsey deal amid ‘incredible’ verdict – Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed Rangers are “looking” to sign Aaron Ramsey permanently but a deal will be difficult to secure.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 31-year-old’s wage demands will hamstring the Ibrox club in negotiations.

Ramsey grabbed an assist as he made his first Rangers start against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup on Saturday (12 February) – following two 15-minute league cameos against Hearts and Hibernian in the last week.

Speaking post-match and quoted by Football Scotland, Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst insisted the Wales international looked “very lively” and said he was “very happy” to see the midfielder play 61 minutes of action.

Hutton suggested Ramsey could look to use Rangers as a stepping stone.

“I think there’s a lot of variables in this situation,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“It ticks all the boxes at the moment as Rangers are only paying a portion of his wages. Ramsey can come in, get the football he needs to get firing again and get back into that Wales squad. He’ll then see where it takes him in the summer.

“If he sets the league alight and has an incredible rest of the season, then maybe he’ll look to move on somewhere else. Rangers will be looking for an incredible deal, but it’s all going to come down to figures.

“What he’s on now is way outside the ballpark, so unless there’s a deal to be done – you really can’t see it happening in the summer. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Ramsey had started just one Serie A game for Juventus this season prior to his January loan to Ibrox.

The 31-year-old’s Bianconeri contract, reportedly worth around £150,000-per-week, expires in 2023.
