Rangers looking to profit after source’s ‘significant’ transfer update – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers and Celtic do not go out to sign big-name players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said both clubs look to sign players they can make a profit on in years to come.

On Thursday (20 October), sources told this site that the Gers have set aside “significant” cash from the January budget to secure a new goalkeeper.

Rangers

The Ibrox club are in the market for a new shot-stopper with Allan McGregor‘s contract set to run out in the summer.

Second choice Jon McLaughlin’s contract at the Glasgow club expires in the summer of 2024

The Rangers chiefs have decided that they will sign at least one keeper next year.

This site also revealed (23 October) that the Light Blues have set their sites on Blackpool striker Jerry Yates.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are keen to add to their forward options going in to next year.

McAvennie insisted the Bears will not splash the cash in any upcoming transfer windows.

I think Celtic and Rangers look to get players that are going to make them money,” he told Football Insider.

Rangers

They buy-to-sell. I do not think it is in the make-up of Celtic and Rangers anymore to spend a lot on players. The days of signing a £5m centre-half are gone. Simply because they want to get players and sell them and make money.

I do not see them going and spending big. I might be wrong but I cannot see it.
