Maguire: Some top talent headed for Rangers as plan revealed to seal multiple hires

A new Rangers partnership will allow the club to identify top talent within the local community with which to bolster their backroom staff.

That is according to finance guru and new Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the club struck a deal with higher education platform Universal Centre of Sport.

Rangers will offer use of their facilities to deliver academic lectures and training to students.

A club statement details how Rangers will also “provide additional industry work experience for students across areas such as coaching, scouting and match analysis.”

And Maguire claims that the scheme could have a tangible effect on the makeup of Rangers’ backroom staff in years to come.

“I think the club quite likes it from a point of corporate social responsibility,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“They are keen to promote activities for health and education, so it fits in with that. It will also allow them to offer internships and get people to work on projects and things of this nature and that will allow them to assess how good these people are.

“So potentially, they can benefit because every time you employ somebody, you are taking on risk.

“If you have already established a relationship with these young people, they can over a period of time find out who is talented and fits in with the values of the club. It can improve the long-term office staff.

“I think football clubs see education as a way of improving relations with the local community and also identify talent which can be used in off-the-pitch activities.”

Rangers have been remarkably consistent in securing commercial partnerships this season, with deals struck with Bitci and Hamburger SV in recent weeks.

They have picked the right time to capitalise on their on-pitch success as Steven Gerrard’s side are just two wins away from sealing a first league title in a decade.

In other news, a pundit has tipped Rangers to sign a top striker to replace Jermaine Defoe in the summer.
